*Karen having her botox procedure!
We are proud to announce a new addition to the Nouveau Contour service range - our own in house Doctor!Dr Saleh, a cosmetic physician with the Harley Clinic in London has joined the team at Nouveau Contour to answer any medical queries you may have. Got a question for Dr Saleh? Email web@nouveaubeautygroup.co.uk So what is botox and what are the benefits? Our skin is made up of collagen and when we are young, is supple and relaxed. However, as we get older wrinkles appear due to our muscles grinding away the natural collagen in our skin wearing it down. This is why very expressive people who use their facial muscles a lot often have quite prominent wrinkles. Therefore, as we age we have less collagen in our skin and when we inject collagen/botox the skin is paralyzed, straightening out the lines of our face giving the appearence of a younger and fresher face. Note: Botox can take up to 7 days to take full effect. The effects fade over 6 months and it is recommended the treatment is applied every six months to keep looking fresh. The reasons for having botox are varied but the majority of people have botox to relax crows feet, forehead lines or frown lines. It is also often used as a sister treatment to cosmetic surgery to lift eyes that have had work done on them. Botox offers the ideal solution to people who do not want to go ‘under the knife’. It is also quicker, easier and cheaper, although the effects are far less drastic than cosmetic surgery. Botox can look very natural providing a subtle yet noticeable improvement in the condition of the skin. However, if over applied or used with poor cosmetic surgery it can look very obvious and unsubtle, which is distinctly unatractive. The current maxim ‘botox is prevention’ draws on the idea that if botox is used early on in life it will prevent wrinkles from occuring. However, the majority of botox users are not young people. The ever increasing popularity of botox is trivialising the treatment and bringing it into the realms of social acceptance so the botox trend looks like it will only get bigger.

Beware beauty salons offering very cheap botox. Even though you could be very lucky and get an experienced doctor who visits that particular salon, you are more likely to be treated by a very inexperienced doctor or nurse

Botox is more than just a solution to beat wrinkles. It can even be used as a pain medication to fight Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), according to a new study.

I prefer using wrinkle cream as a natural alternative to Botox or surgery. What do you think? Is Botox safe enough now due to technological advances?
