Crystal Clear Skincare - Sharon Hilditch, MD, answers our questions!

crystal clear

Co-founded over 12 years ago by Sharon Hilditch, Crystal Clear has grown into one of the leading anti-ageing skin care brands in the professional beauty market.

Crystal Clear was born out of Sharon's desire to create skin care treatments and products that make an immediate, visible difference.

Today, the company has a huge celebrity following and sells its products throughout the world.

Sharon kindly agreed to answer a few of our questions and tells us about Crystal Clear's revolutionary new product the Crystal Clear Eye Pen! Read more...

Crystal Clear is the market leader in high-tech treatment machines and skin care products – how do you remain at the top of your game?
We keep abreast of the latest developments and I am always on the look out for the next product or treatment. I tend to follow the medical world quite closely as a lot of the time ideas that are used within the cosmetic medical field can be adapted or expanded upon for the aesthetic industry.

crystal clear eyepenThe revolutionary new Crystal Clear Eye Pen is an amazing breakthrough – tell us more about it!
The eyepen has certainly become our success story as we sold all our stock in our first month of launch in Selfridges. The feed back from customers has been amazing. The eyes are the first area to show the ageing process with lines and wrinkles starting to appear and the skin becoming fine and lax. I felt there was no effective retail product that could be used around the eyes to plump lines and lift lax skin.

Most products are simply intense moisturisers or they fill in the lines and wrinkles and are like glue. I wanted to create a concept whereby you could get an immediate lift and firming around the eye as well as one that, used everyday as part of the skin care regime, would actively help stimulate collagen and elastin. The eyepen is unlike any other product available.

The Crystal Clear eye pen performs a deep sub-dermal stimulation that provides the muscles around the eyes with an exercise programme that strengthens, firms and lifts while an active serum is delivered directly onto the skin through a small opening in the head of the pen by a gentle pulsating action.

This action helps to "drive" the active ingredients of the serum into the deeper layers of the skin. It is the combination of both actions that creates intense stimulation and kick starts the production of fibroblasts, which are responsible for the formulation of collagen and elastin. This intense action also provides a decongestant effect that helps reduce puffiness and eye bags. The results are instantaneous and keep getting better everyday.

Can you purchase the pen online?
Yes, we have take orders on-line and also by mail order.

You have recently opened the Crystal Clear Skin Clinic in Liverpool – do you plan to open any more in other areas?

We have no plans to open more clinics and the Liverpool clinic was opened primarily as our training centre. Our core business is selling machines and skin care products to salons and spas. We have now expanded into the retail sector with the eyepen and a new range of skin care products. The reason we wanted a high street presence was to further build our brand and also cross promote the salon treatments that our salons offer. We have a rollout plan to launch into 40 department stores outlets by March 2008. It is all very exciting.

What kind of treatments does the Skin Clinic offer?
We offer all Crystal Clear treatments and have a skin care shop where clients can walk in and ask advice from one of our skin care practitioners.

We offer the ultimate in non invasive anti-ageing treatments and also bespoke facials for different skin concerns. We also offer Crystal Clear body contouring treatments to help firm and lift the body.
Our signature Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion and Oxygen Facial are and always have been the most popular facials as the results are fantastic. Our treatments have always enjoyed a celebrity following and even here at our own clinic in Liverpool we treat lots of local celebrities, footballers and their wives.

What makes Crystal Clear different to others in your field?
The products and treatments that we have developed really do make a difference to the skin. In an age when people are becoming more aware of the importance of looking their best, the Crystal Clear products and treatments actually deliver results.

I also feel as a company we offer a total skin care concept. For example, we don’t just make machines, we also formulate all our own products. We spend a lot of time on the development of these products and treatment plans so when salon partners purchase our treatments we can provide a total package for them. Also, we ensure that our treatments and products are constantly featured in the press as this ensures the general public understand the concept and visit the salons for treatment.

Sharon, what made you choose this career path?
I trained in hair and beauty and I love the beauty industry as it’s exciting and ever changing. My job allows me to do what I love best - developing new ideas and taking a tiny thought and making it happen.

Do you have any goals for the future?
I want the Crystal Clear brand to become a major player in the skin care market and my goal is for the brand to be as well known as Estee Lauder.

Now we have launched in department stores I can really see my vision happening and I think as long as we continue putting in the effort we will succeed.

How do you feel about semi-permanent makeup?
If it’s done well the results are fantastic as the subtle enhancements of a little colour on the lips or defining the shape of an eyebrow really does make a big difference.

I have just arranged an appointment to get my lips filled with colour as I am tired of my lipstick always smudging. I also run a lot and it would be great to go out devoid of makeup and still look normal.

On from the Crystal Clear Eye Pen – do you have any more products under development?
We are already underway with two new ideas - one for the retail department stores and a new treatment for our salons. I also had a great idea for a new product while travelling to Portugal last weekend (I find time on my own allows my brain to think better). This latest idea will certainly be a best seller.
