Diane Plummer, formerly the Principal Ambassador of Creative Nail Design UK is our regular down to earth nail expert!
What was your first ever nail job? After completing my initial training over 17 years ago, I set up my own business working two days a week in a fitness studio, which scared me to death! I really was the first nail technician in York.
What is your specialist skill? Custom Colour Blending. My background is hairdressing so colour theory is very close to my heart. I love nothing better than to take a blank canvas, whether it be a nail biter or flat nails, and create the most beautiful illusion or dramatic look to complement them. What are your favourite nail techniques? Ilusion Sculpting with the use of custom colour blending and sculpting on a form. What are your favourite products? Creative Nail Designs's Brisa Gel and retention+ are by far my favourite products. I love the freedom they give me to create beautiful nails and how long lasting they are. What is your involvement in Nail Education? Education is one of my strengths. When embarking on a new career I did every training course I could get my hands on, which led me to Creative Nail Design. I really went the long way round but feel I got the answers I was craving for in the end. What are your ambitions? My ambition has taken a few turns as I've progressed. It is now to compete, as I have on several occasions. I would love to win at the Nailympics in an area I have never competed in - 3D nail art! I find the attention to detail and inspiration behind each design totally fascinating and out of this world. Who has inspired you? Gigi Rouse inspired me to become an educator; Katen Patel inspired me to compete and Samuel Sweet has inspired me again and again with his wealth of knowledge and skill. What is the secret of your success? The passion I have for the products I use and my passion to achieve my goals as a teacher. That is to deliver all the information my students need, in as many different and fun ways as possible so in the end, it's the students who achieve their ultimate goals. Great to hear about a Nail tech who is also a hairdresser. I trained in nails 20 years ago and Hair 10 years ago I maintain that education is the key to success.
