Nadine Baggott is the Health & Beauty Editor of Hello! Magazine, the beauty expert on ITV's This Morning and the face of Olay - so she is expertly placed to offer advice to our Health & Beauty visitors! We asked Nadine a few questions: You have recently returned from a trip to New York – what is it about NY that is so close to your heart? It is so vibrant and stylish, and the women there seem very high maintenance, so you can always get a last minute off the street mani pedi, or visit a great day spa for the best extraction facials, waxing and threading, even have the perfect blow out at most salons. New Yorkers simply get beauty.
How long have you been a presenter on ITV’s This Morning, and how did you get the job? I have been the beauty expert on This Morning for ten years now – amazing. I love every minute of it and Philip and Fern are just as they seem on screen, so much fun to work with and with a very naughty sense of humour. I got the job simply because I wrote an article about a subject that the producers were interested in and came in to do an item and never left!
What beauty product couldn’t you live without? And why? If I had to choose one it would be mascara – my favourite is Max Factor Masterpiece Max – the new rubber technology brushes are brilliant. But I don’t think I could live with just one, I also need an anti ageing serum, a micro dermabrasion home scrub and something to smooth my over processed hair.
How does it feel to be in the public eye? I don’t’ think that I am really. I get recognised but people are lovely and often ask for advice, which I am more than happy to give. I recently spent the last hour of my flight to New York chatting to the BA staff and answering their beauty questions. They were lovely and they upgraded me and my family as a thank you.
Do you have any beauty or styling tips to pass on to the average woman out there? The secret to low maintenance beauty (which I absolutely believe in) is a few key products. A rinse off moisturising cleanser, a serum loaded with peptides and antioxidants (don’t spend any more on a product than you can afford, some of the best products out there are available for less than £20), a mineral foundation that doubles as a base and a sunscreen but won’t irritate your skin, a great body building va va voom mascara and lip gloss is all most women need.
If I lost my job tomorrow I would NOT pay more that £25 for any beauty product. Oh and look for the cheaper ranges form large companies like L’Oreal Paris, Olay, Boots and Max Factor etc as these have all the technology but without the super expensive packaging.
You’ve written the health & beauty pages for Hello! Magazine for some time now – do you have plans to write your own beauty advice book at any point? Not at the moment as I am too busy writing my four pages in Hello, doing This Morning every week and writing my website www.beautybynadine.com But anyone can write in to my website direct to me and I will answer all their beauty questions.
What has been your biggest challenge in life? Professionally it has been being taken seriously as a journalist who writes about beauty. So often people dismiss it, but don’t realise that the beauty industry has the power to change the way people think about themselves and perceive themselves in a positive way, and that changes people’s lives.
Do you have any fashion or beauty influences/icons? Marilyn Monroe and Debbie Harry; both blondes both with attitude and both utterly beautiful in different ways. I grew up watching old Hollywood movies and was, and still am, transfixed by Monroe, and Debbie Harry was the first rebellious beautiful women I saw in my teens; I wanted to be just like her so took in my trousers on a sewing machine, bleached my hair white and wore vintage winkle picker shoes. I was sent home from school for damaging the wooden floors.
You’ve travelled extensively, what’s your favourite destination? The Maldives for all out indulgent spa holidays, Rome for romance and New York for shopping. For me a holiday should offer one of those three things.
What do you feel about permanent cosmetic makeup? I had my eyebrows done a few years back and started out looking like Groucho Marx and ended up with them fading purple and orange so I am very very wary.
But that said I have seen some good results. But like all serious cosmetic procedures including injectables, fillers and lasers you need to go on personal recommendations, and make sure that the person doing the work is fully qualified. Special thanks to Nadine for her contribution & time.

It is so great to read about Nadine and her beauty secrets, I am a big fan of her column. The message that you can look great and just use a few key products is one we should all follow. Less is more, especially in beauty.Veronica says:

This was good to read as I have seen her on telly with no clue as to who she actually was and I always wondered if she had actually had botox because her face does not really move? oh well either way a good insight xLeave a Reply
