Sue Marsh - Eye-tec Founder & CEO answers our questions!

Before your pioneering career in nail design you were a makeup artist in Milan – who inspired you in that choice?
I was a session nail technician in Milan and was living in Modena where I worked for part of the month teaching at a Nail company there called Ladybird where I taught liquid and Powder techniques to their Italian techs and distributors I split my time between the two careers.


Your latest venture, eyelash enhancements, has created a real buzz with celebrities – what is the secret of your success?
My artistic curiosity got me interested in eye lashes I saw the potential for a business for ready to wear lashes to have its own forum and I'm now up to my eyes in demand for eye-tec technicians to be placed all over London. Technical knowledge and a long intense course is what has brought the demand for our services.

I have worked really hard to perfect the every day look for eyes using my design background to make them look as beautiful as possible with colour and out of the box techniques. The celebrity interest go's hand in hand for any business that offers a high standard of personal service and meets with a consistant standard of work. A good reputation is built from high performance and word of mouth. Here are some of the results I can achieve:

You describe Eye-tec as a total eye enhancement solution – can you tell us more about this?
Eye-tec offers 7 eye enhancement treatments that can help to reduce years of a mature client or eyelashes that just enhance the natural beauty of some younger clients.

- Eye lash extentions, an alternative to every day mascara.
- Colour boost tints for eyebrows and eyelashes.
- Eyebrow sculpt and shaping only with tweezers.
- Eyelash perming techniques.

All these treatments require intensive training to work together for the total solution that brings your client back.


You’re well known for your work with famous designers such as Alexander McQueen – what’s a typical day for you in London Fashion Week?
My last time in Fashion shows was in February this year in Paris and a typical day could consist of up to 5 shows I worked as part of a team and we would split into groups to accomodate them.

The day could start at 5am for a 6.30am call time shower and no breakfast as hotels don't start til 7am! Arrive to venue and stay back stage. Report to stylist or head make up artist pick up model list to give us names to tick off as we go. If we are doing toe's and fingers it requires more techs to be with the team. It takes a team around 3-4 hrs to complete the fast track mani and pedi for up to30 models. (Things are much better organised these days than when we pioneered shows in the 90's it was 24 hour days then running independant clients for nail enhancements during the day and at night hand making nails for the shows some used to take up to 5 hrs a set) show teams are now a seperate business and they have developed as an independant industry.

Your male eye enhancements have some amazing results (see Sue’s website www.eye-tec.co.uk and check out the gallery page) – do you feel more men are taking advantage of services like this now?
Male grooming is as fast moving as womens, its amazing how the guys are readily accepting the new looks and the diversity of the treatments and the results are stunning! See eye envy (the latest shoot for men) and fashion focus for men on the web site. When working on men the changes have to be subtle and of a soft finish the effect has life changing experiences for them. Their words not mine.


What are your plans for the future – do you plan to diversify in to more areas of the beauty industry?
All treatments that help people to enhance their appearance are often described as beauty treatments but eye tec is about hair! Just as if you want to restyle colour or cut your hair you book a hair dresser... Eye-tec treatments are not addition treatments tagging along with leg waxes and facials not beauty based at all, so no I won't be diversing into any beauty based services later......


You have travelled extensively with your work – what’s your favourite destination?
Italy is my favourite destination it has Beauty, Style, Fashion, Charm and weather all the qaulities to make me want to return.


Do you have any more media or TV work in the pipeline?
Yes I plan to do some work with TV on the growth of Eye-tec.
